Vacations in Andalusia, Spain? Welcome to the wild and rugged region of Tarifa on the southernmost tip of Spain, where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic at Villa Punta Paloma! Perfect for the voyagers that enjoy freedom, space and privacy, la Villa Punta Paloma with it's 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms and infinity swimming pool, set on a grand 5 acres land, is a rustic yet sophisticated private home available for your exclusive vacations for up to ten guests!

Bienvenido! If there was ever a time to feel liberated and at one with nature, undoubtedly, it’s now. Thousands of years of history, not shy of ancient territorial battles and lively adventures alike, descend upon this piece of untamed, protected earth in the town of Tarifa, located right where the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic embrace.

Your villa, Punta Paloma, sits on a bluff amidst the protected natural reserve Parque Natural del Estrecho of covering 18,931 ha, where migrating birds zip by and the wind is a powerful ally, taking you on a journey of escapism, with room to dare or decompress.

Millenial History
A traditional fishing village located on the southernmost tip of Spain that remains one of the best-kept secrets of Andalucía, Tarifa’s history dates back to 710 AD when Bereber Tarif ben Malluk occupied the city. The Arabs called it “the island of Tarif,” thus, “Tarifa”. The city is also credited with being the origin of the word “tariff”; it was the first port that charged merchants to use their docks. Tarifa was later caught in the midst of battle between Christians and Muslims until 1291, with subsequent unsuccessful attempts by the Moors to take the town. It was attacked a final time by Napoleon, who failed to overcome the powerful resistance of Tarifa. Today, remnants of both the Roman and Moorish areas remain dotted throughout the coast, and Tarifa’s sleepy, bohemian outlook on life is now one of its most appealing characteristics.

Microclimate
Tarifa joins other villages along the southern coastline in forming part of the Costa de la Luz and, as its name implies, it’s flooded with a warm, soft light – much different to that in the rest of the Mediterranean – that glistens on the skin and sand. Tarifa enjoys a microclimate with summers strongly moderated by the cool waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Likewise, winters are some of the mildest in continental Europe. For those in the know, this is yet another secret hidden corner of Andalucía, perfect for escaping the bustle and feeling completely at one with nature and its thousands of years of culture.

Tarifa’s unique wind conditions have made the heritage protected beaches at Playa de los Lances, Valdevaqueros and Punta Paloma, the most popular in Europe among windsurfers and kitesurfers. The funnel created by the Strait of Gibraltar creates a Venturi effect when either the Levante (easterly wind from Africa) or Poniente (westerly wind from the Atlantic) is blowing. In addition, localised thermal winds at locations such as Valdevaqueros mean that even when the prevailing wind is not strong, it’s often possible to windsurf and kitesurf in Tarifa. These unique wind conditions are also the reason Tarifa’s hilly landscape is dotted with countless wind turbines.

Wild and carefree, Tarifa lies right at the end of the road of the Mediterranean.

Your Private Beach Home
With direct and private access to the beach, Villa Punta Paloma has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms spread across three traditional low-lying Tarifa-style stone buildings, each with a private entrance perfect for families or groups of friends looking to celebrate together in independence.

The villa is fully equipped with a home cinema, hanging fireplace, home audio surround sound system, A/C, high-speed WIFI, board games and children’s toys.

Every stay includes the guidance of a Villa Host, a dedicated concierge in charge of making the stay as seamless as possible from the moment of booking. With the help of the Villa Host, guests can book tables in local chiringuitos and bars, arrange for grocery delivery, organise kitesurf lessons or horseback riding excursions, and more. Chefs and wellbeing practitioners are also available upon request.

The Spa
Situated at the bottom of the garden are three restored wooden sheds, which have been transformed into cozy, quiet spaces: a changing room, a sauna, and a treatment room, linked by a shaded patio.

Decor
Love pure decor? When the property was acquired from an old family friend-turned-hotelier, who had built the villa with an eye for comfort and detail, building upon the experience had everything to do with softening the space in the context of its existing footprint.

Its original Tarifa stone structure and slate roofs were maintained to blend into the rocky landscape, while the selected colour palette for the interiors looked to merge with its outdoor counterparts: lush greenery, azzure blue sea tones and sandy, organic shades. The walls were painted in a limestone wash to contrast with the floor-to-ceiling windows and neutral linens were brought in to play with the natural light. Locally sourced Spanish ceramics give a peek into the authenticity of Andalusian craftsmanship.

The result is bright, breezy, luminous and, more importantly, lends itself to a calm state of mind.

A place to dare
Tarifa is located within the Intercontinental Mediterranean Biosphere Reserve, a renowned place to watch migrating birds, in particular the storks that cross the Strait of Gibraltar in spring and autumn. Also, whale and dolphin watching can be arranged, with several known species in the 14-kilometre-wide strait!
